7 Questions About Fear the Walking Dead Season 2
With Fear the Walking Dead‘s exciting season finale, we’re set up to float onto Season Two. The action-packed final episode left me reeling and pondering over a number of questions.
What secrets are in Madison’s past?
During the Talking Dead Fear special, Kim Dickens and producer Dave Erickson both teased about Madison having a dark past. So what could itbe?
There are two moments I recall from the show that could provide clues. The first came in the season premier when Madison and Travis were in the stairwell in the abandoned church and she eluded to the fact that addiction ran in the family. The second happened during Episode 4 when she was drinking by herself in the garage.
These two nuggets lead me to believe that perhaps Madison is a recovering alcoholic. Seeing what she did outside the fence caused her to backslide. She took refuge in the car so that Alicia and Travis didn’t see her drinking. Maybe her drinking contributed to her first husband’s death. We’ll have to wait and see in Season 2 of FTWD.
Who is Strand? Can he be trusted?
The meme says it all, right? Strand is an intriguing character who clearly knows how to manipulate people to get what he wants. Dave Erickson said the character had a “con man” sensibility, leading me to wonder just how he accumulated all that wealth. When he spoke to Nick in the cage in Episode 105 of FTWD he made a comment about the haves and the have nots. His bitter tone suggested he didn’t think he was one of the haves, but was it a ploy to get Nick on his side? Will he really bring everyone aboard the Abigail, and if so, what’s the motivation? He doesn’t seem like the type who would want to share supplies.
Will we see Tobias again in Season 2 of Fear TWD?
With his little knife and firm grasp on what was happening around him, Tobias became a fan favorite. Will he be like the Morgan of Fear TWD, reappearing somewhere down the line? So far, there haven’t been any clues from the cast or producers about Tobias’ fate.
Was there something in the water at the very end of FTWD Ep. 106?
This is something that was being buzzed about on social media–as the camera panned over the water, you could clearly see red brown matter floating in the ocean. Some people wondered if this was something ominous or dangerous. To me, it appears to be nothing but algae, but it’s always possible it’s something more.
- Will we see Andy again? Did Travis bring him with them?
We last saw Andy on the floor of the parking garage reeling from the beating he got from Travis. It didn’t seem that they intended to kill him, so did he manage to get away from the compound? Could he possibly reenter as a villain in the Fear the Walking Dead future?
Another question–did Andy follow Travis or did Travis bring him in the back of the truck? It’s possible that Travis brought him along so that he could escape, which would have only amplified his feelings of betrayal to spark that fire that caused him to attack him.
Regardless of whether Travis brought Andy or let him go and Andy followed, I feel certain it will have a negative impact on his relationship with Daniel.
- Will the show pick up right where it left off or will time jump?
In an interview, Robert Kirkman said the following about the FTWD timeline:
I will say that it will definitely progress. I will say that I don’t consider this show to be a prequel to The Walking Dead, because there will be a point where a certain episode of this show will line up with Season 2 of The Walking Dead, and a certain episode of this show will line up with Season 3 of The Walking Dead. So we will be progressing through time to the point that we do pass the initial days of the outbreak. But how fast it is that we get there? That’s just going to have to remain a mystery.
So you have to wonder–will FTWD Season 2 pick up the very same day on the beach? Or will there be a time jump?
It’s worth noting that the principle Fear TWD characters learned that they were all affected in Episode 106, just as Rick learned in Episode 106 of Fear the Walking Dead. In Season 2 of The Walking Dead, there was not a large time jump, so perhaps FTWD will be the same.
- What happened to Alica and Christopher in the garage?
We don’t see how Christopher and Alicia got out of the tense situation with the National Guardsmen. It’s clear that the soldiers did take the truck, but we don’t know what events transpired. Did anything happen that could have had an impact? Christopher didn’t seem to have any major wounds, and Alicia wasn’t shown too much after the fact.
I do have a feeling that Alicia may fall apart in Season Two based on a hint given by Dave Erickson. He stated that the characters who had it most together before the apocalypse would struggle the most in Season 2. Immediately, I thought of Alicia’s plans to go to Berkeley and her relationship with Matt. I am picturing Nick getting a second chance on life free of drugs while his sister suffers a downward spiral.
We’ll have to wait until 2016 to get the answers to these questions. In the meantime, I’d love to hear your thoughts on them and find out what you’re wondering. Share in the “Comments” section!
