Do You Remember What Morgan Put on the Altar in TWD 508?
Bicycle Girl revisits the items that Morgan placed on the altar in the Church of Episode 508 of The Walking Dead, Coda.
Surprise! Like Spaghetti Tuesday on a Wednesday, we’re having a mini Throwback Thursday on a Wednesday with a quick look at the end of Episode 508 Coda.
Remember when Morgan came sneaking onto the scene after the credits in that episode? Now, I may not think like a human any more, but when I saw what he placed on the altar at the church, I thought the last of Morgan’s sanity had gone “Clear.”
Turns out the three items were incredibly significant and proof of just how detailed and thorough the writers at TWD are. So what were those items? Let’s take a look:
1. A Goo Goo Cluster
I may not see eye to eye with Morgan on the benefits of keeping murderous wolves as pets, but he has my full support on the subject of Goo Goo Clusters. Even when they’re not left over during the apocalypse, those things taste like I imagine a nightmare might taste like. In Episode 604, Here’s Not Here, Eastman tries to give Morgan one, but he refuses in his cell.
2. A Single Bullet
I don’t think Teddy Roosevelt said walk with a single random bullet and carry a big stick, but that’s what Morgan appeared to be doing before I saw Episode 604. Now, it’s clear that bullet was the one that those two timid survivors gave to him along with a can of soup when he turned the corner and started saving lives instead of taking them.
3. A Rabbit’s Foot
You’d think after your wife, your kid and mostly everyone else in the world died, you’d stop believing that a dead rabbit’s foot in your pocket could do a damn thing to help you out! Now, we know the rabbit’s foot wasn’t a luck charm at all, but rather, it was the gift that Eastman’s daughter gave to him, passed along to Morgan.
When you think of how sneakily these three items were added into Episode 508, almost a year before we’d find out what it means, it’s hard not to think that when Morgan looked like this:
He was laughing at what we didn’t know.
Speaking of Morgan, how do you think that whole wolf situation is going to pan out? The camera zoomed in on him rather purposefully when Rick said, “We’re going to need to talk about things later” in episode 605. Indeed, they’re going to.
Let me know in your Comments section what you think is coming up next in that story line…if I wasn’t already dead, I’d be dying to know.
Stay tuned because we’re not done with Coda yet. I’ll be back tomorrow with a TWD TBT post discussing the rest of the episode.
