Nearing the End: How Will The Walking Dead S5 Wrap?
Do you remember that feeling you had in the pit of your stomach last fall? Anxiously watching the calendar count down to the continuation of The Walking Dead‘s major cliffhanger ending? Whether you were hopeful, scared, or generally in knots about the fate of the group – there was still an underlying feeling of excitement knowing that you had 16 glorious episodes to sink our teeth into.
Hard to believe, but here we are, again. Anxiously watching the days and hours countdown to the very last episode of season 5. A season that has easily racked up the biggest death count from the core group; and some of the most gruesome. Yet, now that they are in a place where safety seems evident, I can’t help but feel that we are being led into a false sense of security and the worst is yet to come.
TWD Extended Finale Could be Bad News for Daryl & Rick
I go back and forth on whether I want to be spoiled or not… especially with The Walking Dead. On one hand I feel like having some prior knowledge of a bad situation may enable me to watch it with a little more grace and dignity instead of being a big ‘ole pile of feels on the floor, sobbing into my woobie.
Yet, I know that part of what I truly love about this show in particular is the element of surprise and differences between what happens on screen as opposed to the trajectory of the comic books. Having said that, I am not opposed to a general idea of what may come, then take that and run with it…
So, in the spirit of speculation, here are the synopsis for the final two episodes of The Walking Dead season 5:
5×15 – 3/22/15 (“Try”) When life within the walls begins to mimic life outside, the group realizes that sheltered life may not be possible
5×16 – 3/29/15 (“Conquer”) (90 min season finale) “Daryl finds himself in trouble while out on the run. Meanwhile, in Alexandria, Rick and his group continue to feel like outsiders as danger lurks near the gates.”
Within the community things are coming to ahead. Between Gabriel’s betrayal, the supply-run-gone-wrong, Pete and Rick’s growing hostility and Abraham taking over the construction crew, I can’t help but think Deanna is going to explode. I know she said that she had to banish three men before, but really, I doubt she’s ever had a situation like this on her hands. A group with skills like our survivors have are a game changer within a community like that and I think she’s starting to realize it.
Also, let’s talk about Carl’s new friend Enid. Is she experiencing that ‘caged-animal’ syndrome some of the others are? Where she just needs to get out from time to time? Or is she a spy for another group, the ones carving the ‘Ws’ into walkers heads?
Sticking with the younger population of Alexandria – what’s Carol going to do about Sam’s odd obsession with her cookies? I know that Carol has had some pretty precarious situations with children throughout the course of this show, but she’s really taking this ‘wolf in grandma’s clothing‘ to the extreme. (BTW, totally not complaining, I happen to love this version of Carol. Once again, like a phoenix, she’s risen from the ashes and morphed into someone new).
A 90 Minute TWD Season 5 Finale
This extended finale is going to be a whopper for sure. I truly hope that should we experience more casualties, they won’t come from our group. We’ve lost a lot of people this year, and love ’em or hate ’em, all their deaths have been hard to watch for one reason or another. I don’t know if I could watch another one go so soon… unless its Gabriel. His imminent death can’t come soon enough for me.
One last thing I wonder is will we see Morgan before the season ends? A definite fan favorite, Morgan has been unknowingly tracking the group and after coming upon the map in the church, one can’t help but wonder if he will also make the trek to DC and happen across the ASZ. My guess is yes, Morgan will appear by next week’s finale.
