Overkill’s The Walking Dead Game Preview

Overkill’s The Walking Dead Game Preview

As a fan of The Walking Dead, I can’t get enough of it, whether it be the comic books, on AMC, or playing the games that have come out so far which include both PC/Console (Telltale’s Walking Dead games and TWD Survival Instinct) and Android/Apple Phone (TWD: Road to Survival, TWD: No Man’s Land, and the upcoming TWD: March to War).

There is another game on the way, this time courtesy of Starbreeze Studios and Overkill Software, titled Overkill’s The Walking Dead. Announced way back in 2014, the game will be a new co-op experience in The Walking Dead universe which will also introduce new characters. If you are a gamer, you know Overkill from their great game, Payday 2.

According to Starbreeze AB CEO Bo Andersson Klint, “The collaboration between Starbreeze Studios and our partner Skybound Interactive will deliver something uniquely exciting for our millions of fans. We’re two independents joining forces to create the ultimate survival horror game. With Robert on the team, we will bring The Walking Dead into the world of first-person shooter co-op games. It will be gameplay focused, ferocious and bring chaos to the traditional industry model – from us developers straight to you. This time it’s big – don’t walk alone.”

Robert Kirkman also weighed in on the game, saying, “From day one on this project it’s been clear to me that this is the Walking Dead co-op action game fans have been waiting for. I can’t wait for people to learn just what OVERKILL has been cooking up for this game. Skybound is always about breaking new ground and trying to find something unexpected in all endeavors and this game continues that tradition in grand style.”

So what do we know about the game so far? Very little apart from the fact that it was supposed to be released in 2016, but that date has been pushed back until sometime in 2018, and that in conjunction with E3 in 2015, a virtual reality experience was also announced. It will be released on PC, Xbox One and PS4, and will take place in Washington D.C.

As we get more information from the publisher, we will of course update you with the latest! In the meantime, check out the creepy teaser trailer that has the original launch date.

In 2018 Washington will fall. What will you do?
