Bicycle Girl discovers things she never noticed before in this week’s The Walking Dead Throwback Thursday post
Happy Thursday, Deadlings! This week I’m throwing back to the recent past with The Walking Dead Episode 515 Try. This episode is one I’ve always liked–what’s not to love about a bloody Rick going full on Shane in the middle of the street? I thought I had fully digested the episode but decided to give it another watch. This time through, I noticed a few small somethings I wanted to share:
- This T-Shirt
So I always wondered why Michonne was so interested in this T-shirt. I dug around this time and discovered that Noah was wearing it in a couple of episodes. Now, I understand that she was in her room, feeling “asleep” as she puts it later in the episode, in a dream world.
Seeing the t-shirt in the laundry basket reminded her of the danger outside and the loss that the group suffered. It all goes back to what Rosita said about Michonne:
Michonne was doing her best to focus on life in Alexandria, to try and start new, but in this episode, she seems to figure out that it’s not possible to do that. More than that, she tells Rosita that she doesn’t even want to. The T-shirt seems to be the start of that.
- This Walker
When Enid and Carl have their up-close-and-personal moment in that tree, she says to him, “You’re afraid of me, too.” Immediately, the camera goes to two walkers, including this guy with the “W” on his forehead.
I never really thought Enid was a wolf, even though I know many people did. This seems to be another occasion, though, where the foreshadowing of their arrival is linked to her in some way.
At this point, I feel like it would have been revealed in the show if she were a wolf. It seems like that story arc is over, and we’re moving forward into something new. But the symbols like the moment where Carl finds this comic that apparently belonged to Enid still haven’t been resolved.
Maybe they were just diversions, or maybe Enid really is a wolf in teenaged girl clothing. Who knows?!?
- This Coffee Can
When Nicholas goes to get his hidden gun, it’s tucked away in what looks to be a coffee can from the 1960s–with great big flowers on its side. I couldn’t get a better screen cap because you only see it for a second, but it was interesting to me since flowers and guns have become linked in the show ever since Lizzie looked at the flowers.
- These Decorations in Jessie’s House
As Rick tells Jessie that he wants her to live, look what you see on the mantel–a golden decoration that says the word “LIVE”! And to the left of that is a huge pair of scissors, which reminds me of JSS when Jessie takes down the wolf with her regular-sized pair.
- The Shots of Sasha Killing Walkers
When Rick is ranting at the townspeople of Alexandria, the scene goes between him on the street and Sasha in the guard tower. When he says “We’re the Ones Who Live,” Sasha’s walkers are in view in her scope. The contrast between Rick’s words and her actions are jarring.
Yes, Sasha knows how to survive, but it’s clear she is struggling with how to live without her brother and Bob. Instead of trying to live in the town, Sasha is taking out her anger on the walkers. So Rick is correct in one way, but wrong in another.
Also, look what’s on screen when Rick says “You want this place to stay standing?”
Another one of the Wolves’ walkers! This is clearly foreshadowing the threat that ends up wiping out much of the town and damaging the wall enough to let in the herd.
